The Power of your Tongue

As humans we are full of emotions that are expressed daily with our body and language. At times we find that our emotions do not make sense and there is a lot of questioning, as in why this and why that? When we disagree, we may roll our eyes or when we feel defensive we may cross our arms and wrinkle the forehead.

There is an old saying that was taught in school, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me." It was a way of teaching kids to not cry when other kids made rude and hurtful comments to them. This is a false saying because in reality words can be very powerful and influential. James 3:5 says "Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark." Physically the tongue is a small part of the human body but it is powerful to cause a fire! A fire destroys, kills, and harms something that was once living. If the only words that come out of your mouth are negative comments, those words are capable of hurting others that can destroy their future. Even if someone is consistently telling someone that they are dumb or useless, that can become an obstacle for them to grow as a person.

Choose to speak life to someone today and make a difference in this world. By speaking life you will help someone blossom because speaking life is encouragement, hope, joy, and positive thoughts. Next time you are having a rough day, think before you speak. It is okay to feel icky but do not contaminate others... you may regret it.
